In 2023, UnitedHealthcare Community and State launched a Health Equity National Advisory Board to serve as an independent, third-party council to UnitedHealthcare for the purpose of building organizational infrastructure and leadership capacity regarding the integration of health equity across our managed care business operations, practices, and policies as well as providing external thought leadership to inform and influence the prioritization of health equity in the Medicaid program. The Health Equity National Advisory Board (Health Equity Board) makes recommendations, develops and champions innovations, supports the active engagement of members, providers, advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders, and advises on the design and development of internal and external policy recommendations, delivery system designs, and/or clinical and organizational practices in response to issues and trends related to health equity. The Health Equity Board is comprised of leading experts and advocates as well as Community and State health plan consumers and/or caregivers (as appropriate).
The goals of the Health Equity National Advisory Board are to:
- Serve as a forum for feedback and reactions to UnitedHealthcare’s efforts to embed health equity into our core business functions.
- Provide feedback and direction for UnitedHealthcare’s initiatives impacting member disparities and health inequities.
- Help stimulate behavioral change across our organization and the overall Medicaid system to support efforts to reduce health inequities faced by Medicaid enrollees.
- Inform UnitedHealthcare’s position and thought leadership on addressing health inequity.
- Help influence policy and program design changes needed to support the prioritization of health equity in the Medicaid program and Medicaid managed care organizations.
